IN MEMORIAM CLARENCE LANGLEY
Beukendall Lodge # 915, Scotia, NY
20 Dec 1930 - 26 Sept 2017
Clarence Langley, Jr., 86, of Schenectady, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Born in Plattsburgh, NY on December 20, 1930, he was the son of the late Clarence Langley and M. Olinda St. John Langley. Clarence was raised and educated in Plattsburgh and graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1949. He earned his Master's Degrees in Education and in Library Science from SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Albany. Between 1953 and 1955, Clarence proudly served our country in the United States Army and trained to become a member of the Signal Corps. He enjoyed the camaraderie and fondly recalled all the unit members pooling their meager funds at the end of each pay period to buy grilled cheese sandwiches—and then sharing sandwich slices equally. In 1954, Clarence married Janet L. MacFarlane at Trinity Church in Plattsburgh. In October, they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage. As a longtime communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Scotia, Clarence performed roles ranging from painter to warden. Along with members of St. Andrew's and others, Clarence supported the Scotia Housing Committee, which is responsible for the Holyrood House on 5th Street in Scotia. Clarence served as the organization's president for years. Clarence retired in January 1986 from Scotia-Glenville Central Schools where he taught science in the junior and senior high schools. In retirement, Clarence enthusiastically embraced Masonry. As a longtime member of Beukendaal Lodge #915 F&AM he served two terms as Master of the Lodge and was the Lodge Secretary for many years. Clarence was a member of the Valley of Schenectady, Scottish Rite, was made a 33 degree member (2006), and received a Meritorious Service Award for 21 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. George's Chapter #157, Royal Arch Masons; St. George's #74, Cryptic Masons; Charles H. Copestake Council, Allied Masonic Degrees; and Red Cross of Constantine, Albany Conclave. Clarence also enjoyed working as a funeral assistant with The White Funeral Home in Scotia. His flawless sense of direction and parallel-parking ability made him a natural limo driver. Clarence's family includes his late wife, Janet M. Langley; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Budinski and his late but never-forgotten son, Bill Langley. The family appreciates the care and affection shown by the staff at Kingsway Arms. We also value the assistance, love and support of Janet and Clarence's many friends. With Clarence's death following Janet's so quickly, the memorial service scheduled for September 30, will now celebrate both of their lives beginning at 1 p.m. St Andrew's Church Scotia, NY will hold the service. Donations in Clarence's memory can be made to St. Andrew's Church, Scotia, NY or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements are entrusted to The White Funeral Home, Scotia and for those who wish, online condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.sbfuneralhome.com.C
